An exploration of print
Jennifer Love has been an artist and teacher for over 40 years. Originally from Ottawa, she lived in Australia for 16 years before returning to Canada's West Coast, where she now resides in Gibsons, BC.
She studied textile arts at Capilano College in North Vancouver. Soon after, she co-founded Foxglove Fibre Arts Studio/Gallery on Bowen Island, organizing exhibitions featuring local and international artists and coordinating regular workshops. In 2005, she moved to Pender Harbour where she and her partner spent the next ten years running a small marina and resort. While that kept her very busy for most of the year, the winter months afforded the time to delve into her artistic pursuits.
For over a decade, Jennifer was the BC representative for the Surface Design Association (SDA), arranging regular meetings in Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast, and working with a team to coordinate exhibitions and workshops.
Jennifer has showcased her work in numerous exhibitions across the Sunshine Coast (BC), Bowen Island, Nanaimo, and Vancouver. Her recent exhibitions include The Kube in Gibsons, the ACT Gallery in Maple Ridge, and Habit Trading Co. in Vancouver. She is a regular participant in the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl.
Hand-painted and printed fabrics or papers are central to Jennifer’s art practice. Although she employs many techniques and tools, she has become fascinated with monoprinting on a gel plate. She works intuitively, embracing the unpredictable results of each printing session and the spontaneous juxtaposition of collage elements.
Her work is often inspired by themes of memory, its loss, and its impact on communication and relationships.
As an enthusiastic instructor for over 40 years, Jennifer has taught many surface design workshops, including fabric printing techniques, introductory and advanced monoprinting on a gel plate, and collage.
