Gel Plate Printing

Printed papers form the foundation of my art practice, and using a gel plate often feels magical to me. This technique, a recent addition to the artist’s toolkit, is becoming popular for its painterly method that enables the creation of multiple yet unique prints from the same plate without a press.

For the time being, all of my workshops are in-person, not online.

  • Introduction to Gel Plate Printing

This workshop covers the fundamentals of colour blending and gradations, creating textures, using masks and stencils, working with different viscosity paints, building compositions, and registering multiple layers. It suits beginners and experienced printmakers looking to refresh and explore these fascinating techniques. It is available as a one- or two-day class.

  • Beyond the Basics: Gel Plate Printing and Image Transfers

This workshop is ideal for those familiar with monoprinting on a gel plate and experienced printmakers looking to expand their skill set in a setting that encourages exploration and discovery. We will begin with the fundamentals and then advance to resist/transfer printing using laser prints of your drawings or photographs, magazine pages, and patterned wrapping papers. This is a two-day class.

  • Introduction to Gel Plate Printing and Abstract Collage

This workshop offers the opportunity to learn my techniques for gel printing various papers and using them in multi-layered collage. On the first day, we will print on paper using a gel plate, incorporating stamps, stencils, masks, and found objects. We will use these printed and assorted paper ephemera on the second day to create small, abstract collages. By the end of the workshop, you will have completed several one-of-a-kind art cards, a collaged journal, and possibly the beginnings of a larger collage. This is a two-day class.
